Syvia L. Magid

 

Syvia L. Magid is the head of the firm’s business department. In her business law practice, Ms. Magid represents business clients in all aspects of their operations, including selection of form of entity in which to do business, preparation of all documentation and all governmental forms necessary to complete formation, drafting of organizational and buyout agreements among co-owners, review or preparation of miscellaneous contracts, and representation of clients in business mergers, reorganizations and sales of business assets or business interests.

Ms. Magid’s land use practice includes representing clients in obtaining conditional use permits, variances and street vacations as well as drafting, reviewing and negotiating easements. Ms. Magid also works closely with the firm’s estate planning and probate department as well as the firm’s real estate department in order to address business law issues that arise in both departments.

Ms. Magid joined the firm as an associate and became a partner on January 1, 2002. Before joining the firm, Ms. Magid was with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Forest Service, Region 5 with a principal focus on environmental compliance, general litigation matters, and Title VII class action.

Ms. Magid was admitted to practice in California in 1994. She received her B.A. summa cum laude from Whittier College, Whittier, California, in 1991 and her J.D. from Hastings College of the Law, University of California in 1994 where she was Associate Executive Editor of the Constitutional Law Quarterly.

She is admitted to practice before all courts in the State of California as well as Federal Court for the Northern District of California and for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Ms. Magid is a member of the Alameda County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. She is a member of the board of directors of Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation, a California nonprofit corporation.
